Many AA-trucks built prior to mid-February 1929 were converted to the, then, new AA front spindles and related parts based on a Ford recall. These AA-trucks originally had A-chassis front spindles and bearings.

This recall was specified in Indianapolis Service Letters as follows:

• April 10, 1929
• April 12, 1929 missing this letter?
• July 24, 1929
• October 18, 1929

Given this recall (free to the customer), it is likely that few AA-trucks built prior to mid-February 1929 have original assembly line parts. Finding original parts is a problem for those AA’ers doing assembly line type restorations.

The changeover was to occur when trucks were brought in for regular service at no cost to the customer. The following new parts replaced original parts:

• AA-3105 spindles
• AA-1206/16 front wheel inner/outer bearings
• AA-1102/03 RH/LH hub/brake drum assembly
• A-21943 spindle nuts
• AA-1120/21 RH/LH hub bolt nuts
• AA-1197 grease retainers, AA-1195 grease retainer washer, and AA-1190 dust cap
• For front hubs – AA-1120/21 RH/LH hub bolt nuts

To insure wheels could have been removed/installed with one tool – for AA-trucks with original 15/16 hex. wheel nuts, the following new parts replaced original parts:

• AA-1120 RH hub bolt nuts for both rear hubs
• AA-1120 RH hub bolt nuts for wheel carrier
• A-21924 d2 side wheel carrier lock nut
• AA-1476 d2 under body wheel carrier hinge bolt nut
• AA-17036-B starting crank and wheel nut wrench (used for 1-1/8″ hex. wheel nuts) – replaced AA-17036 wrench used for 15/16 hex. wheel nuts.
