AA Floor Mats and Carpets Parts Descriptions
General Information
The following descriptions are sequenced numerically by part number. For a direct link to a body type’s mat or carpet description, use the “Floor Mats and Carpets Table”.
There were twenty-four different mats and carpets used for the AA’s as follows:
- Thirteen Front Floor Mats – Drawings of each are included within the descriptions below
- One Front Floor Carpet – For type 275-A Funeral Coach. There are no engineering drawings on the MAFFI parts data base.
- Eight Rear Cargo Area Mats – not yet researched
- Three Miscellaneous Mats/Carpets (for rear step and tool box) – not yet researched
AA-5085 Frame Channel Floor Mat Assembly (Wood)
For body type 315-A Standrive. This mat assembly was placed on each side of the AA112 frame channel. The mat can be seen in the photograph below (click it for a lager view).
This 20-1/2″ by 28″ assembly consisted of wood slats with three wood spacers between slats. It was held together by three wires installed through the center of the slats and spacers.
A-35230 Front Floor Mat (Rubber)
Refer to mat AA-82161 which was the same mat but with dual high shift pedal assembly holes punched.
A-35230-B Front Floor Mat (Rubber)
Refer to mat AA-82161-B which was the same mat but with dual high shift pedal assembly holes punched.
A-35230-C Front Floor Mat (Rubber)
Refer to mat AA-82161-C which was the same mat but with dual high shift pedal assembly holes punched.
A-72230 Front Floor Matt (Rubber)
For 85-A body type and only used through March 1929 when it was obsoleted. For those 85-A Panel Deliveries with the hand brake lever located in front of the transmission shift tower and had the A chassis 3-speed transmission with a standard coupling shaft (i.e. no factory optional dual high transmission). This mat was also used for the 79-A Panel Delivery through March 1929.
Like the initial AA-82161/A-35230 mats, this was a black rubber mat with a corrugation type surface (commonly called a pyramid design).
Unlike the engineering drawing for front floor mat AA-82161-B/A-35230-B, this mat was not specified to be used as an AA mat with optional cut-out holes for the dual high transmission shift pedal.
It is possible that Ford did not offer the dual high transmission with the 85-A Panel Delivery. The December 1928 Body Parts List supports this theory by not listing a mat for an 85-A with dual high as was done for the 82-A Closed Cab. However, direct supporting documentation has not been found.
The floor mat detail photograph provides measurements of the transmission and brake hand lever openings area, accelerator and foot rest openings, as well as sections AA and BB details.
The 85-A was started in production beginning in August 1928. Since most 1928 AA’s had the hand brake lever at the left cowl, this mat would have gotten little usage until the first of 1929.
AA-76230 & AA-330230 Front Floor Mats (Rubber)
Mat AA-76230 was for 76-B Open Cab and 82-B Closed Cab bodies. Mat AA-330230 was for 330-A School Bus. These AA’s came with a 4-speed transmission and therefore had the hand brake lever on the right side of the shift tower. This was a black rubber mat with a raised starburst pattern surface.
The mat outer perimeter and the transmission tower opening had a 7/16″ to 9/16″ plain edge and a 3/16″ wide by 1/16″ high border on the inside of the edging. There were 1/32″ x 1/32″ raised cut guide lines to allow openings to be cut for cargo body control levers. These cut guide lines applied to Ford sold dump, coal, and garbage bodies only.
This mat was cut to a shorter length for mat AA-330230 and used with type 330-A School Bus (see dashed cut line shown in the drawing).
AA-82161 & A-35230 Front Floor Mats (Rubber)
Both AA-82161 and A-35230 floor mats were on the same Ford engineering drawing. These floor mats were for 1928 and early 1929 AA’s without emergency brakes (i.e. had the hand brake lever located at the left cowl). These AA’s had the A chassis 3-speed transmission. The AA body types available were the 76-A Open Cab, 82-A Closed Cab, and 85-A Panel Delivery.
Mat AA-82161 was used for those AA’s with a factory optional dual high transmission. The mat included two holes for the dual high shift pedal assembly. Mat A-35230 was for AA’s with the standard coupling shaft and was also used for some A body types.
Both mats were black rubber with a corrugation type surface (commonly called a pyramid design). There was a Ford script in an oval border in front of the shift tower opening.
AA-82161-B & A-35230-B Front Floor Mats (Rubber)
Both AA-82161-B and A-35230-B floor mats were on the same Ford engineering drawing. These floor mats were for 1928 and 1929 AA’s with emergency brakes and had the hand brake lever located in front of the transmission shift tower. These AA’s had the A chassis 3-speed transmission.
Mat AA-82161-B was used for those AA’s with the factory optional dual high transmission. The mat included two holes for the dual high shift pedal assembly. The body types available were the 76-A Open Cab, 82-A Closed Cab, and 85-A Panel Delivery.
Mat A-35230-B was for AA’s with the standard coupling shaft and was also used for some A body types. The AA body types available were the 76-A Open Cab, 82-A Closed Cab, and (starting in March of 1929) the 85-A Panel Delivery.
This was a black rubber mat with a raised starburst pattern surface. The detail drawing shows Section AA (the perimeter detail) and edging-borders for the transmission tower, hand break lever, accelerator, and foot rest holes.
AA-82161-C & A-35230-C Front Floor Mats (Rubber)
Both AA-82161-C and A-35230-C floor mats were on the same Ford engineering drawing. These floor mats were for 1929 AA’s with emergency brakes and had the hand brake lever located to the right side of the transmission shift tower. These AA’s had the A 3-speed transmission.
Mat AA-82161-C was used for those AA’s with the factory optional dual high transmission. The mat included two holes for the dual high shift pedal assembly. The body types available were the 76-A Open Cab, 82-A Closed Cab, and 85-A Panel Delivery.
Mat A-35230-C was for AA’s with the standard coupling shaft and was also used for some A body types. The AA body types available were the 76-A Open Cab, 82-A Closed Cab, and 85-A Panel Delivery.
This was a black rubber mat with a raised starburst pattern surface. The detail drawing shows Section AA (the perimeter detail) and edging-borders for the transmission tower, hand break lever, accelerator, and foot rest holes.
AA-82161-D Front Floor Mat (Rubber)
This floor mat was for 1929 and 1930 AA’s with the 4-speed transmission. The hand brake lever was located to the right side of the transmission shift tower. The body types available were the 76-A Open Cab, 82-A Closed Cab, and 85-A Panel Delivery.
This was a black rubber mat with a raised starburst pattern surface. The detail drawing shows Section AA (the perimeter detail) and edging-borders for the transmission tower hole.
AA-85230 Front Floor Mat (Rubber)
This mat was for the 85-B Panel Delivery and the 290-A Standard Police Patrol body types. These AA’s had a 4-speed transmission and therefore the hand brake lever on the right side of the shift tower.
This was a black rubber mat with a raised starburst pattern surface. The outer perimeter and the transmission tower opening had a 7/16″ to 9/16″ plain edge and a 3/16″ wide by 1/16″ high border on the inside of the edging.
Floor mat AA-85230 was a unique design and was initially used for the Murray supplied 85-B Panel Delivery. The 85-B started production in June 1930. The Murray supplied 290-A Standard Police Patrol design was based on the 85-A and used the same floor mat. The production of this Standard Police Patrol started in early 1931.
The mat design allowed the sides to cover and hide the nailed down top surface of the A-80505 scuff plates used with these body types. These scuff plates were attached with five oval head, slotted wood screws on the side of the floor side sill.
Note that these scuff plates were also used on the 79-B Panel Delivery and 225-A Drop Floor Panel Delivery. Mat A-79230 was used for these A chassis body types.
AA-210230 Front Floor Mat (Rubber)
This front floor mat was for the following body types:
These AA’s had a 4-speed transmission and therefore had the hand brake lever on the right side of the shift tower. The mat design allowed the sides to cover and hide the top surface of the various scuff plates used with these body types. It was similar in design to the mat AA-85230. The outer perimeter and the transmission tower opening had a 7/16″ to 9/16″ plain edge and a 3/16″ wide by 1/16″ high border on the inside of the edging.
